There are many performance indicators of brake pads. The performance of the same brake pad under different temperatures, different vehicle speeds, different braking pressures, etc. is very different. The main performances are as follows:
1. Braking performance refers to the braking ability (friction coefficient) of the brake pad under normal braking conditions (that is, when the braking temperature is relatively low). The friction coefficient of the brake pad is not the higher the better, but it is necessary to achieve a balance in comprehensive performance to meet the design requirements of the vehicle.
2. Decay performance: Under road conditions such as downhill mountain roads, the brakes are continuously braked, the temperature rises rapidly, the braking ability of the brake pads will deteriorate, and the braking distance will increase. This phenomenon is called "decay", and we certainly hope that the decay rate is as small as possible. The decay rate of high-quality brake pads is very small, and some do not even decay; while some counterfeit products decay severely and almost lose their braking ability at high temperatures.
3. Recovery performance: After the brake pads decay at high temperature, when the temperature drops, can they restore their original braking performance as soon as possible? This is also an important indicator to measure the quality of brake pads.
4. Wear: It refers to the wear of the brake pads during use. The braking effect depends on the formula and process of the friction material. For example, carbon fiber brake pads can be used for hundreds of thousands of kilometers without replacement. In addition to the wear of the brake pads themselves, the wear of the brake disc must also be considered. During the braking process, high-quality brake pads will form a protective film on the friction surface of the brake disc to reduce the wear of the brake disc, while low-quality brake pads contain a large number of hard spots and impurities, which will pull out many grooves on the surface of the brake disc, accelerating the wear of the brake pads and brake discs.
5. Noise: In today's environmental protection, this is also an important indicator. In fact, there are many factors that cause braking noise, and brake pads are just one of them. It is generally believed that if the hardness of the brake pad is too high, it is easy to generate noise.
6. Others: There are also performance indicators such as shear strength, hardness, compression rate, thermal expansion, water absorption, adhesion, etc.
