The brake system is like a life for a car, and the failure of the brake system or the complete loss of power will bring dangers to the owner. There is no doubt that the braking of the vehicle is the guarantee of the safe travel of the vehicle, but how many car owners have a deep understanding of the brake system and can have a good habit of checking the brake system regularly?
The maintenance of the brake system is related to the life safety of all people in the car. We need to pay attention to small problems in the brake system at all times and solve them in time to nip safety hazards in the bud.
Brake pad
Replacing the brake pad can ensure the normal operation of the vehicle's braking performance.
The brake pad is the first line of friction with the disc, and it is also one of the main factors that affect the braking force. You can see the brake pad in the caliper when you squat down. If there is less than 1/3 left, you should prepare to replace it. Don't wait until the iron sheet rubs against the disc to replace it, causing the disc to wear.
Comparing the new and old brake pads, the old brake pads at the bottom have been worn out, and continued use will damage the disc.
Disc
The disc has grooves, which will produce obvious marks. The reduced contact area with the brake pad will reduce the braking effect.
The disc brake system relies on the brake pad to clamp the disc through hydraulic force to generate braking force. Although the disc is basically made of hard cast iron, it will also wear out after long-term use. If there are obvious grooves and deformation, it must be replaced. If the pull rod bounces or there is a serious abnormal sound when braking, it is necessary to check whether the disc is abnormal.
Master cylinder
The master cylinder is one of the important parts of the disc brake system. When replacing the brake oil, it is recommended to clean the residue in the cylinder.
The master cylinder pushes the brake oil, so that the pressure of the brake oil moves the caliper piston to achieve the braking effect. Although the master cylinder does not often break down, if the brake oil has not been replaced for a long time, it is easy to cause impurities to accumulate in the master cylinder. Therefore, remember to check the cylinder when replacing the brake oil.
Brake oil inspection/replacement
If the brake oil height is lower than the standard or dirty, it is recommended to replace it to ensure that the braking force can be transmitted to the caliper.
Brake fluid is the transmission fluid of the brake system. Due to the hydrophilicity of brake fluid, the water content of the brake fluid should be checked with a water content detection instrument after a long time. If the water content of the brake fluid is too high, the boiling point of the brake fluid will be reduced, causing abnormal locking or failure of the brake, which is very dangerous.
Caliper cleaning
Using brake cleaner to clean the caliper can effectively remove the dust generated by the brake pad and reduce the chance of caliper failure.
The caliper is an important mechanism for pushing the brake pad. Usually, pay attention to whether there is an abnormal sound when the tire rolls. If there is friction between the brake pad and the disc when pushing the tire, it is very likely that the caliper piston cannot be returned, or the caliper oil seal may be damaged or dirty. In this case, it is best to disassemble and clean or replace the caliper. There are many caliper repair kits on the market that allow riders to replace the new oil seal in the caliper.
